BS EN 62676 asks the questions most installers skip: what is each camera for, what must it resolve, observe, recognise or identify, and under what lighting? We design to those answers, so the footage is usable by police and insurers rather than a grey smear at night.
A workplace camera system is also a data protection system. We set up signage, retention periods and access controls in line with UK GDPR and the Surveillance Camera Code of Practice, and hand you a one-page operator note so your team stays on the right side of it.
Maintenance matters more than the install: lenses fog, drives fail silently, time stamps drift. Contract visits verify recording, retention and camera views, and the check is logged in your client portal alongside your fire certificates.

Do workplace cameras need GDPR paperwork?
Yes. CCTV that captures identifiable people is personal data under UK GDPR, so you need signage, a lawful purpose, defined retention and controlled access.
We set all of that up at commissioning and leave you a plain-English operator note. If footage is requested, by police, an insurer or a subject access request, you will know exactly how to respond.
Can you take over a CCTV system someone else installed?
Yes. Takeover starts with a baseline survey: camera schedule, views, recording, retention and any defects, all in writing.
You know exactly what you inherited and what we are now responsible for. Most IP systems can be maintained regardless of who installed them.
Can I view the cameras remotely?
Yes, set up securely, not with the router ports flung open.
We configure remote viewing through the manufacturer's secure service with proper credentials, so you get your sites on your phone without turning the recorder into a public webcam.

Do we need to register CCTV with the ICO?
If you are an organisation operating CCTV you are a data controller and will normally need to pay the ICO data protection fee. You also need signage, a documented retention period and a process for handling subject access requests. We set the system up so those obligations are straightforward to meet.
How long should CCTV footage be kept?
Only as long as you have a stated reason for keeping it. Thirty days is the common working figure for commercial premises, but the right answer comes from your own purpose and risk assessment under UK GDPR. We configure retention to the period you decide and document it rather than leaving it on a factory default.
What makes CCTV footage usable as evidence?
Resolution and framing at the identification distance you actually need, a correct and maintained time stamp, secure storage that prevents tampering, and an export process that produces a viewable file with an audit trail. Systems designed to BS EN 62676 address all four; systems bought on camera count alone rarely do.
Can you take over and maintain existing cameras?
Yes. We survey what is there, tell you honestly what the equipment is capable of against what you need it for, and quote maintenance on the existing system, replacement of the weak points, or a full upgrade. You get all three positions rather than only the one that suits us.
