What fire detection works in a high-ceiling warehouse?
Usually optical beam detection across the space, or aspirating systems where dust, cold stores or racking make beams impractical.
Point detectors above about 10.5 metres fall outside BS 5839-1 recommendations for most types. If your warehouse has point heads on a 14-metre ceiling, that is a design problem a service visit cannot fix, and it belongs on the upgrade plan.
Our insurer has demanded a maintained fire alarm. What do they mean?
They want a system serviced to BS 5839-1 by a competent provider, with certificates available at renewal and after any incident.
Policy wording often specifies quarterly or six-monthly servicing and sometimes a P category. We read the policy schedule with you and set the contract to match it exactly, so a claim never fails on a maintenance clause.
