Electrically locked doors must release when the fire alarm operates. BS 7273-4 governs how that interface is wired, monitored and tested, and it is the single most common defect we find on access control installed by security-only firms.
Because we maintain the fire alarm and the access control, the interface is designed and certificated as one system. Door release is tested at every fire alarm service visit and recorded in the same certificate pack your insurer already sees.

We do not sell police-response monitored intruder alarms, that work requires NSI or SSAIB certification, and we will tell you so rather than badge-engineer around it.

Can one contractor cover both fire and security?
Yes, and it removes the gap that causes most problems: the fire alarm interface to access control and door release under BS 7273-4. When two contractors hold those systems, neither owns the interface. One contract means one certificate pack, one renewal date and one number to call.
Which standards apply to commercial security systems?
BS EN 62676 for video surveillance, BS EN 60839 for access control, BS 8418 for detector-activated remotely monitored systems and BS 7273-4 for the fire interface, alongside UK GDPR and the Surveillance Camera Code for how footage is handled. We design and certificate against the ones that apply to your building.
Do you take over security systems installed by someone else?
Yes, whoever installed them. We survey what is there, report honestly on condition and capability, and quote maintenance, targeted replacement or full upgrade so you can see all three options rather than only the one that suits the contractor.
What does a security maintenance contract actually cover?
Planned inspection of cameras, recorders, readers, locks and entry panels, verification of the fire interface, firmware and retention checks, and a documented visit record. Reactive callout is included at contract rates. You get the same certificate pack discipline as the fire side.
